Switching from another subscription platform
What actually moving over looks like today.
Why this is a "cutover," not a "sync"
Subscription Concierge is built directly on Shopify's own native SubscriptionContract objects and
selling plans. Your current platform almost certainly manages billing separately from Shopify's native
subscriptions — which means an existing subscriber's active subscription lives in their system, not
yours to simply hand off. The realistic path is: stand up equivalent offerings here, start routing new
subscribers through Subscription Concierge, and let existing subscriptions on the old platform run their
course (or migrate them deliberately, subscriber by subscriber, with proper notice).
The process
- Recreate your subscription offerings. Set up equivalent Tiers, Bundles, and any checkout upsell/gift rules in Subscription Concierge matching what you currently offer. See Getting Started for the setup walkthrough.
- Decide your cutover point. Common approaches: switch new-customer signups over immediately while existing subscribers finish out their current platform, or set a specific date and communicate it to subscribers in advance. There's no "right" answer here — it depends on your subscriber count and contract terms with your current provider.
- Route new signups through Subscription Concierge. Update your storefront's subscription widget/selling-plan selector to point at the tiers/bundles you configured in step 1. New subscribers start on real Shopify subscription contracts from day one.
- Handle existing subscribers deliberately. For subscribers you want to move over rather than let finish naturally: cancel their subscription on the old platform per that platform's own process, then have them (or you, on their behalf) start a new subscription here. Because this touches a real customer's active billing, we recommend doing this in small batches and confirming each one, not as a single bulk action.
- Wind down the old platform once every subscriber you're keeping has been moved over or has finished their term there.
What carries over automatically
Anything already native to Shopify — your product catalog, existing one-time order history, and customer records in Shopify itself — is already there; Subscription Concierge reads it directly rather than needing an import. What doesn't carry over automatically is anything that lived inside your previous subscription platform specifically: its own subscriber list, its own billing schedule state, and any of its platform-specific settings (discount codes tied to their system, its own analytics history, etc.).
